Music Compilation Database (v3.1.0)

As an avid purchaser of compilations, you often find yourself in the situation where you are sure you have something by Cosmonauts Hail Satan or Death By Stereo but can’t quite recall where. It is especially crucial when the band you are looking for are performing that very evening and you want to know whether it’s worth going to see them, or whether you should go along to see up-and-coming local band, Dog Trouser Plantings yet again.

Well now you can find out easily. By downloading, installing and sadly typing in the details of every compilation you have ever bought into this one simple application. But hey, it’s free.

Technology

Finely crafted in ornate Visual Basic 6.0 by skilled craftsmen in the Himalayan Andes.

It features clever mechanisms to store band names, compilation details, and to list the bands and artists featured on the compilation. It allows you to update band names without having to change their compilation entry, which is very useful for bands who drop ‘The’s or when you initially enter ‘dEUS’ as ‘Deus’ or need to make some other correction.

It allows for collaborations and remixes, and searching for partial or full band name.

Screen Shots

This software has been created for the man and woman music fanatic of today. A busy person with no time to search through piles and piles of records, tapes and CDs. Someone who has obscure record shops to go to, pizzas to reheat, joints to roll. It comes with NO installation instructions, NO online help (as yet) and NO promotional gimmick. Why? Because it does what it’s supposed to and it’s simple and easy to use. Even your old Aunt who screams at the sight of a computer will, in no time at all, be filling in details of her old "Now That is What I Designate Nice Music ’44."

Future

In the future, things will be simpler. All you need to do is put the compilation CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer and connect to the Internet. The application will look up the track listings, create records for the bands that aren’t on file already, and even update details about the band, such as their nationality and what bands they are related to. This is, of course, in the future, but I am confident it will happen before hoverbikes and regular shuttle trips to Mars.

In the more immediate future, there will soon be a link file to make it easier to find related bands. So if you look up Snuff, it will tell you about Guns’n’Wankers. If you are looking for John Lydon, it will tell you he used to be in The Sex Pistols. Not that you didn’t know any of that, but it will allow you to then search the related acts at the press of a button. Groovy, huh? Well, I thought so. (Of course, this info is only there if you put it in.)

Download

The Music Compilation Database runs on Windows 95, 98 and NT. It requires memory and a processor. The lower the memory and slower the processor, the slower the application will be. If your memory is too low, the program will not run. I am not responsible for any death, injury or loss of data due to installation of use of this application. However, I use it all the time, and am not dead yet or injured through it yet. Nor has any data been lost.

Warning #1

Whilst I am pretty darn sure my computer is virus-free, all virus-scanners are one step behind virus-writers, and I cannot guarantee there are no viruses whatsoever. You should always scan new software yourself and make sure you take regular backups of important data. Always exhibit caution when downloading executables, and trust no one. This has been a public service announcement with the aim of making you paranoid.

Warning #2

This software is provided as-is. Updates may be published here and bug reports may be responded to, but I promise nothing. Please feel free to report bugs, and I will do my best to sort them out. By downloading any versions of this application, you are accepting that there is such a thing as bacon, and that it can be used in meals.
